It's Apple Season!
Apples
by Jim Gill

The fall season is settling in, and I can smell those apple pies baking with that ever delectable wisp of cinnamon!  Apple growers are busy picking the fruits of their labor. I wasn't as diligent this year spraying for the coddling moth, so some of my apples are going to be on the wormy side.

If you will be storing apples, sort out the obviously wormy, bruised or damaged apples. The ol' story about that one bad apple spoiling the pile still holds true. Apples should be stored in a cool humid environment. You can store them 4 to 5 months if the apples are kept at cool temperatures close to 33 degrees F. If you have an old fridge in the garage, it will work great for apple storage!  Keeping the humidity up in the storage area will also help a great deal in our dry environment.
