Deep Watering Perennial Plants

Remember to deep water all perennial plants especially trees, shrubs, and flowers. With dry summers we need to be recharging the subsoil moisture the best we can. This will help the plants over-winter. Most of our survival problems are associated with dry soils and our plants drying out over the winter, especially evergreens. Remember all plants use water all winter long, even though it is a small amount compared to the growing season. You can water up until the ground freezes up.  Also if we have a warm period this winter and the ground is not frozen, drag out those hoses and water those perennials. When deep watering I am talking about watering so the soil is wet down to 12 to 18 inches deep. If you follow this advice your perennials will thank you next year.
