Golden Elderberry
Golden Elderberry
By Jim Gill

Do you want to add some color variation to the landscape?  Golden Elderberry might be the plant to consider. This is a tough plant suitable to use down to Zone 3. It’s a fast grower as well.

As the name implies, it adds a bright golden foliage impression to the garden. This is a shrub that will grow up to eight feet in height with about the same spread.  It will accentuate the property with its fragrant, white, flat –headed flower clusters in early summer. This is followed by black, juicy, edible fruits. The fruit is great for jelly, wine, and the wildlife loves it too.  It does require more than one plant for pollination and fruit set.

This plant will work well as a fast grower to help screen out that air conditioner or whatever. This is a go-to plant for something to help break up the monotony of a garden site.
