Planting Dormant Trees in Spring
Planting Dormant Trees
Planting Dormant Trees
March and April are excellent months to plant dormant trees and shrubs, once the snow is gone and the frost is out of the ground.

By planting trees and shrubs before they've leafed out, they have the opportunity to wake up naturally and get accustomed to their new surroundings without the heat and water stress experienced in the summer. The plants benefit, and so will you when you see how much cheaper dormant plants are than their leafed-out counterparts.

When planting a tree or shrub in a grassy area, remove the lawn grasses surrounding the base of the tree to avoid competition between the roots of grasses and your new tree. Add mulch to help retain moisture.
