Pruning is often
necessary to remove dead, diseased, or insect-infested branches on trees
and shrubs. Pruning will also help improve tree structure, enhance
vigor and maintain safety.
Since each cut
has the potential to change the growth of a tree, no branch should be
removed without a reason. Don't leave a stump -- a flush cut allows the
tree to heal around the wound and it looks better. Paint, tar or other
wound dressings are not recommended to cover the cuts.
Although tree
removal is a last resort, sometimes it's better to get rid of a problem
tree and replace it with a more suitable specimen.
