Winter is a great
time to plan and design landscape projects. Landscape planning means
creating a plan to make the best use of the space available in the most
attractive way, and making the most of the site's natural advantages.
Successful landscape planning involves three ways of looking at your outdoor area:
--first, consider your land area as a cube of space, very much like a room.
--next, look out each window of the house. What do you want to see?
--finally, consider the design from outside the house as viewed by you and by others.
In terms of landscaping, what are your goals? Do you want to screen
your view of the alley, or soften the look of a solid fence? Do you
want a water feature as the focal point of your yard? Do you crave a
shady place to entertain outside in the summer?
While doing your planning, consider utilizing drought-tolerant plants,
and look for other ways to conserve water. Check your local library or
bookstore for landscaping books that are sure to inspire you!
