throughout the growing season, often 2 or 3 crops each season.
Fort Laramie is one
of the more popular varieties grown in the inter-mountain west. Hardy
and great producing, the Fort Laramie Strawberry withstands tough
winters and can produce its first berries the first year its planted!
Imagine eating succulent strawberries this summer and fall!
There are some
June-bearing varieties do quite well in our area as well. These plants
typically produce berries once per season, often in early summer.
Strawberry beds
should be planted where they will receive liberal amounts of sunlight.
Make sure your soil is adequately amended with plenty of organic matter
to help provide a good home for new plants. For everbearing varieties,
you should remove blossoms for several weeks after planting to help
stimulate development of large, juicy berries. Also, replant the bed
every three years to maintain strong production.
