Are Your Trees Sprouting?
Tree Sprouts

By Jim Gill

Do you or a neighbor have a tree that sends up sprouts or woody-knobs from its roots? This can be quite a problem, especially when we go to mow the lawn. The Silver Poplar, cottonwood, aspen and many other trees are famous for this.

This situation can cause real friction between neighbors, I’ll tell ya. Help is on the horizon. A chemical called Napthaleneacetic acid is being bottled and sold in many horticulture retailer stores as “Sucker Stopper”, “Sprout Stopper, etc. It does a nice job of killing the sprout where it surfaces.

The nice part is that it does not translocate back to the parent plant and cause harm or damage. This helps to maintain harmony with the neighbor whose sprouts you are spraying out.

This isn’t fast acting stuff, so have some patience if you choose to use it.
