Tom Heald will present a
workshop on xeric plants and how to effectively use them in one’s landscape.
Xeric plants are those that are drought tolerant, require low water and are
excellent for Wyoming’s growing conditions.
The free workshop will be held Wednesday,
July 13, 2011 from 7 to 8 p.m. at The Wyoming Plant Company, located at 358 S.
Ash Street in Casper. The workshop is open to the public; no registration is
required. Participants will learn about the
wide variety of colorful, hardy perennials available for Wyoming landscapes,
plants that flourish despite the state’s harsh environment and difficult growing
conditions.
Participants will discover a vast
array of flowers, shrubs and trees which thrive in drought conditions, powerful
sunlight, and high winds. In addition to the presentation, Tom will have
examples of these plants on hand, including penstemons, sea foam artemesia, and
Russian hawthorn. Even though these plants are tough
and hardy, you will discover many of these plants possess vibrant, intense
colors. You will learn not only about these incredible species, but also how to
best fit these unique plants into your landscape.
We will be happy to give you
recommendations for what will work in your
garden. For more information on this free workshop, contact Tom at 262-2963.
This workshop is the first in a series that will be
presented by Tom at The Wyoming Plant Company through the rest of the summer.
Other topics forthcoming include wind breaks and trees for Wyoming
landscapes.
